Ability, skill, and the understanding of complex musical compositions is the simple framework of a soul’s heart toward God. In many conferences and seminars there’s often discussion of ministry for God or to God. While both have awesome merits and value, your focus and true north compass should be to make your lifelong pursuit-His presence.

Using music as tool for evangelism is brilliant. Likewise, having appropriate songs and sounds for altar times of salvation, dedication, or weddings, and funerals are all needed and acceptable. Being motivated in praise and stirred up with toe tapping infusion of gospel is always exhilarating. Certainly, it would be unthinkable to sit at home around the fireplace during a season like Christmas in silence. We must hear "Joy to the World," "Silent Night," and "Oh Holy Night," peppered with Vince Guraldi’s rendition of “Linus and Lucy” from a Charlie Brown Christmas. The function of music is legitimate in all these cases.

As long as we are positioned on this whole note in the galaxy, we’ll be using music to serve us as entertainment or atmosphere.

The function of music brings notoriety for the carrier. Therein lies part of our dilemma. We’re not here on earth just to become household names, but rather to bring our worship, (weorthscipe, old Anglo-Saxon term meaning “worth-ship”) and honor to His Name. By default, we’ve all been guilty of attributing more importance to a name than the function or goal of our songs. What really matters though, is the audience of ONE. His name, that name that is above EVERY name is what matters. Remember:

The audience of ONE is your finest adventure ever!
